Robert Madsen
President, Canadian Self Storage Association & U-Lock Mini Storage
Robert Madsen grew up in self-storage, being introduced to the industry at the age of 5 when his parents purchased their first conversion facility in downtown Vancouver. Forty years later, self-storage continues to be both his passion and livelihood as the president of his family business under the U-Lock Mini Storage brand in British Columbia. The company operates a portfolio of premium self-storage facilities across the province, including locations in Surrey, White Rock, Mission, Chilliwack, Nanaimo, Victoria, and Parksville.
Robert thrives on serving communities of all sizes and remains deeply committed to advocating for the self-storage industry, ensuring its evolution in productive and positive ways. As President of both the Canadian Self Storage Association and the Vancouver Island Self Storage Association, he actively works to support and advance the sector. Passionate about innovation, Robert is particularly interested in how technological advancements can shape the future of self-storage. He enjoys sharing industry knowledge through writing, speaking at conferences, and moderating discussions on the largest online self-storage forum for owners, staff, and vendors.
A strong believer in giving back, Robert is a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Steveston. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, embarking on new adventures, and spending quality time with family and friends.
