William Pesek

William Pesek is a long-time Asia opinion writer, based in Tokyo. Twenty-plus years in the region, mostly with Bloomberg and Barron’s, opining on Asia economics, politics, business and the odd social trend. Author of 2014’s “Japanization: What the World Can Learn from Japan's Lost Decades.”


Pesek writes regularly for Nikkei Asia, Barron’s, Forbes, Asia Times, The South China Morning Post, The Straits Times, The Korea Times, The Washington Post, Politico, Australia Financial Review, Livemint in India and Euromoney and Asiamoney magazines. He’s a regular on BBC, CNBC, Channel News Asia and radio platforms NPR and RTHK.


Prior to Asia, he spent five years in Washington covering the Federal Reserve and US Treasury for Barron’s/Dow Jones. Before that, in New York (his hometown) as a Dow Jones reporter, where he penned the credit markets column for The Wall Street Journal four out of five days per week. Honors include the 2018 and 2011 Society of Publishers in Asia awards for commentary and the 2010 Society of American Business Editors and Writers prize for commentary.
